Sergio Perez has spoken about the issues currently facing Red Bull, reflecting on his departure from the team following Adrian Newey’s exit.
Many believed that with the departure of Sergio Perez—shortly after Adrian Newey left—Red Bull could overcome its internal struggles and return to the fight for the championship. However, the decision to let go of the Mexican driver has not paid off as expected. After a disappointing stint with Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda also appears to be on shaky ground.
As a result, several insiders are now re-evaluating the role Checo Perez played in the team, with the Mexican increasingly linked to a return to the grid in 2026. Following a year away from racing, Sergio Perez is being considered as a potential driver for Cadillac, which is preparing for its Formula 1 debut and reportedly wants an experienced driver lineup.
“I’m sure they regret it”
In the meantime, Sergio Perez has revisited his departure from Red Bull, offering insight into the team’s current atmosphere. “I don’t think I deserve an apology. That’s just how the sport works. Red Bull made their decision, partly due to the intense pressure at the time. But deep down, I know they regret it a little. And I know this from very reliable sources. What can I do? I just keep moving forward. It’s not easy, but it has to be done. I still have many friends there, and no, I’m not happy about the issues they’re having,” he told Dede El Paddock.
“Max deserves the very best. He drives incredibly and is an exceptional talent. We had managed to build something unique, which gradually fell apart. But what we achieved remains important—especially during one of the most competitive eras in F1 history. We didn’t dominate like Mercedes did. Our advantage was marginal, and once Newey left, the problems began,” Sergio Perez added.
