Between the Las Vegas GP and the Qatar GP, F1 and Cadillac officially unveiled the agreement to bring team #11 to the grid in 2026. This marks the first time since 2016 that eleven teams will be on the starting grid. The matter was successfully resolved after some controversies, likely linked to the old name and management. In fact, after submitting its application as Cadillac, the former Andretti team officially changed its name—here is the new identifier for the F1 team.
The name change process was obviously already in an advanced stage at the time of the official announcement of its entry into F1. However, the official confirmation of the new name has now arrived, which will identify the team among the entrants in the 2026 championship.
Following Michael Andretti’s exit from the project, nothing remains of the initial plan. With the dominant presence of General Motors, the new team will be called Cadillac Formula Racing Limited.
This comes after official documents were filed with Companies House, formalizing the transition from “Andretti Racing Limited” to the new identifier. The new team will enter F1 powered by Ferrari engines for the first two seasons, awaiting its proprietary Power Unit, expected to arrive, likely, in 2028.
The team will still have a marginal presence of Andretti, with Mario Andretti taking on the role of super-consultant. Michael Andretti’s complete departure, at this point, was the true obstacle to the entry of the eleventh F1 team.
Despite numerous statements and confirmations of its presence on the grid in 2026, the Cadillac team still needs formal approval for its championship entry. It’s a lengthy process that could still present obstacles.
