With the arrival of the new year, work begins in the wind tunnel on F1 cars for 2026: Alpine unveils the first detail of the future A526. One more season and then it’s time for the revolution: Formula 1 will change again, bidding farewell to the current generation of cars and embracing major innovations. The first year under the new regulations represents a great opportunity for the entire paddock.
The 2025 season hasn’t even begun, but eyes are already on 2026. Teams may soon choose to focus their efforts on the new FIA regulations, abandoning the development of the next cars earlier than planned. The goal is to be ready when the revolution knocks on the door of the Circus: an opportunity not to be missed, especially for those trailing behind.
While the top teams bear the pressure of needing to confirm themselves, those who have fallen behind have a chance to leap ahead. Alpine, which experienced a disastrous season but then improved toward the end, is among the teams tasked with the challenge: the Flavio Briatore cure, which brought Mercedes Power Units to Enstone, has everything to prove.
Alpine 2026: first details of the Mercedes-powered car
On its social media profiles, Alpine revealed a detail of the A526. With the arrival of the new year, the possibility to work in the wind tunnel on the cars destined for 2026 begins. The French team immediately gets to work, showing the world the first “real” preview of the new regulations: a detail of the new front wing.
A few weeks ago, Oliver Oakes commented on the arrival of Mercedes engines: “I think that, first and foremost, in this era of regulations, they’ve been the benchmark. Also, it’s clear that the customer teams using this Power Unit are competitive in the top positions. And I believe that for us as a team, it’s an obvious opportunity to measure ourselves against them.”
