The start of 2025 won’t be easy for Red Bull: the opinion of a doubtful Jos Verstappen warns the Austrian team, with the former driver cautioning the team and keeping the door open for a possible departure of Max from Milton Keynes.
Jos Verstappen is looking around, and Red Bull doesn’t fully convince him. The declining performance of the car in 2024 does not reassure Verstappen Senior, who does not rule out that his son Max may seek a change of team in the near future.
The 52-year-old Dutchman spoke to “F1 Insider” microphones and left all doors open: “Anything is possible.” For dad Jos, the competitiveness of the team and car will be crucial: “He could stay at Red Bull if he wants. His goal has always been to win races. If he perceives that it’s no longer possible to win with this car, then a team switch wouldn’t be out of the question.”
In this sense, the second half of 2024 did not provide encouraging signs for Red Bull. “Since Adrian Newey left the team, the car hasn’t improved. The updates haven’t worked as expected,” continued a doubtful Jos Verstappen. “I’ve already talked enough about why the team risks falling apart, let’s not add more… It’s clear that Red Bull will face a big challenge in 2025.”
The recipe for technical recovery is clear: “They need to build a car that is more predictable in every condition. But if we look at the second half of last season, we can’t be optimistic,” concluded the former Benetton and Tyrrell driver.
