Alpine. 13 points and ninth place in the constructors’ championship, behind Williams, who, with the Albon-Colapinto pairing, might not only maintain eighth place but also challenge Haas in the final stages of the season. Sure, 15 points (which is the gap separating the American team from the Grove squad) almost exactly match what Williams has collected so far (16 in total), but considering that 10 of these were earned in Azerbaijan, nothing can be taken for granted.
Williams, perhaps the best-performing team among the lower-ranked ones, has been showing strong form recently, while Alpine, after scoring 4 points between Belgium and the Netherlands, has fallen back into a negative spiral where the team and drivers literally don’t know what to do.
Alpine, a resigned team without motivation
This is evident from the statements made by Ocon at the end of the Singapore GP: “A difficult and frustrating race. We are neither fast nor competitive. We lack the pace to fight for points, and most importantly, we can’t keep up with the cars ahead of us,” reports ‘Marca.com’. Gasly’s words followed: “The reality is that three races ago we were in ninth place, and in the last three races, we’ve been far from the top 10. We have to improve. There’s a lot of work ahead of us.”
Alpine seems like a team that has lost its motivation. Perhaps the engineers and drivers have resigned themselves to this situation and are simply waiting for the next season. At least, that’s how it seems based on these kinds of statements. However, when you find yourself in situations where everything is going wrong, and there are no positive signs or even a statement capable of stirring things up, it can become really difficult to progress. A shake-up is needed.
