After penalty controversy, Max Verstappen discusses FIA meeting and warns: “It’s clear who’s at fault”. Max Verstappen spoke about the meeting with the FIA following controversies over penalties.

Max Verstappen, Red Bull 2024

After weeks of debate surrounding penalties, a meeting took place in Qatar between the FIA and the drivers, including Max Verstappen, who recently secured his fourth world title.

The goal was to establish clear and precise guidelines that would allow drivers to push their limits without worrying about potential sanctions.

The drivers’ association requested and secured this meeting, held at the start of the Qatar race weekend, to discuss the issue with the Federation.

Max Verstappen Discusses the FIA Meeting
“I think it was something positive,” said the Dutch driver. “This way, we can address things, although I believe the main issue lies with the circuits. At some tracks, there is a lot of space off-track, and this causes problems. We need to work on this aspect.” – the Red Bull driver pointed out.

“The main problem is the tracks that allow certain things to happen. If there were gravel, drivers would avoid taking so many risks. Adding gravel would solve 90% of the problems,” Max Verstappen added. “There are too many rules; I think everyone agrees on that, but that’s not really the core issue.”

The four-time Formula 1 champion also responded to a question about whether the topic of drivers’ language was discussed. “We didn’t talk about swearing; that wasn’t the focus of the meeting.”
