After Christian Horner’s departure, two more senior figures leave Red Bull. Red Bull Racing faces internal crisis as two more senior figures leave following Christian Horner’s exit.

Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, Red Bull 2024

New details continue to emerge following Christian Horner’s dramatic departure from Red Bull Racing, revealing that two other senior team members have also decided to leave the Milton Keynes-based Formula 1 team. The atmosphere within the F1 paddock is increasingly tense, as the motorsport world tries to piece together what is happening behind closed doors at Red Bull Racing, one of the most dominant outfits in modern Formula 1 history.

Christian Horner, the longest-serving team principal on the current Formula 1 grid and the architect behind Red Bull’s rise to the top of the sport, has stepped away from his role. This decision marks a seismic shift not just for the Austrian team, but potentially for the balance of power in Formula 1 as a whole.

Initially, all eyes had been on reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, whose future with Red Bull had been the subject of intense speculation. However, in a shocking twist, it is Christian Horner who has departed—reportedly dismissed from his role—despite having led the team to yet another title in the previous season.

Although the exact reasons for Horner’s removal have not been officially disclosed, speculation is growing. Some insiders suggest that the so-called “Verstappen camp,” including influential figures close to Max Verstappen, may have played a decisive role in the outcome. These rumors are further fueled by Verstappen’s rumored talks with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, which could have increased his leverage within Red Bull’s leadership structure.

Journalists close to Red Bull Racing have begun to piece together the timeline and behind-the-scenes developments that led to this major shake-up.

More exits at Red Bull Racing: not just Christian Horner

Sky Sports F1 correspondent Craig Slater has offered insight into the unfolding situation. “We are starting to reconstruct a timeline of how this decision was made. There is a real sense of shock at the Milton Keynes campus,” Slater reported. “From what we understand, the decision was finalized yesterday. It was communicated to Christian Horner yesterday, as well as to key partners and sponsors. Horner then arrived this morning—Wednesday—at the Red Bull headquarters and addressed the staff at 10:00 a.m. UK time. He left the campus at 11:25.”

Slater added, “Employees were told not to make any public comments. The entire matter is now being handled by the main office in Salzburg, Austria.”

Perhaps even more concerning for Red Bull is the fact that Horner is not the only high-profile departure. According to Slater, “Two other senior management figures, who had close professional ties with Christian Horner, have also stepped down from their roles within the organization.”

While these individuals have not yet been named, their departure underscores the scale of the disruption currently affecting Red Bull Racing. The internal atmosphere has reportedly become strained, with some team members expressing their emotional distress off-camera in conversations with media.

What’s next for Christian Horner?

Christian Horner’s future in Formula 1 remains uncertain for the moment. However, given his experience, success, and influence, it is highly unlikely he will remain on the sidelines for long. Rumors have already linked the British manager to other teams, with Scuderia Ferrari emerging as a particularly intriguing possibility.

Should Ferrari decide to make a leadership change in the near future, the availability of a figure like Christian Horner would be impossible to ignore. His impressive track record—leading Red Bull Racing to numerous Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships with both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen—makes him one of the most valuable free agents in the Formula 1 paddock.

Whatever comes next, it is clear that Horner’s departure signals a major turning point for Red Bull and could have ripple effects across the sport as the 2026 regulations approach.
