This has become a constant in the closing stages of the season. Sergio Perez is no longer comfortable with Red Bull, and his future seems to be moving further away from Milton Keynes. The Mexican seems unable to perform and is consistently out of Q3 and the points zone.
Currently, he is eighth in the standings, almost 300 points behind Max Verstappen, who, despite having a car that wasn’t always a winner on some weekends, managed to become world champion with three races to spare.
This has led Helmut Marko and Christian Horner to evaluate the Mexican, despite the renewal signed a few months ago. On one hand, there are talks of potential new sponsors, but on the other hand, it feels like Red Bull’s patience is running out.
Advice for the future
While waiting to see what Red Bull’s choice will be, advice has come for Sergio Perez. During the Qatar GP weekend, Jason Plato, former British racing driver, shared his thoughts on the Mexican driver.
“Sergio Perez should throw in the towel and leave F1 with dignity. At Red Bull, it’s time to make room for a young driver,” Jason Plato said. “IndyCar, SportsCar, GT are definitely championships that would welcome Perez with open arms.”
