Max Verstappen shows his Monaco home live on air: “That’s it.” €100,000 per square metre
Max Verstappen’s Monaco Grand Prix ended almost before it had begun. The Dutch driver was unable to get away properly at the start after engine problems struck his Red Bull, forcing him into an early retirement. However, while his race ended in disappointment, his journey home was anything but ordinary.
After leaving the circuit, Verstappen headed straight to his yacht moored in Monaco’s famous harbour and made his way back to his residence. With a smile, he remarked that his home was located “just 500 metres from the circuit.” In most places that would sound unbelievable, but in Monaco it is entirely possible—especially for Formula 1 drivers, who rank among the highest-paid athletes in the world and can afford some of the most exclusive real estate on the planet.
Verstappen’s current residence is located within the prestigious Mareterra development, one of Monaco’s newest and most ambitious luxury projects. The complex combines cutting-edge architecture, premium materials and advanced sustainability technologies, including highly efficient energy systems designed for modern luxury living.
Buying an apartment within the Mareterra development requires a substantial investment. Prices reportedly start at around €60 million and can easily exceed €100 million depending on the size, location and floor level of the property. The average value per square metre is estimated to be close to €100,000, placing it among the most expensive residential developments anywhere in the world.
Perez asks Verstappen: “Which one is yours?”
A few days before the Monaco Grand Prix, during the traditional drivers’ parade, Verstappen had already offered fans an unexpected glimpse into his life in the Principality.
Sergio Perez asked his former teammate a simple question: “Max, which one is yours?”
The Dutchman responded without hesitation. In a video that quickly went viral on social media, Verstappen turned around, pointed toward a striking waterfront building and began explaining exactly where he lived. Rather than simply indicating the building, he went into surprising detail, describing the location of his apartment, the access points and even how to reach the luxury tower overlooking the harbour within Monaco’s newly developed seafront district.
A record-breaking residence
The apartments within the Mareterra project reflect the extraordinary exclusivity of the development. Architecturally, the buildings resemble giant ships emerging from the Mediterranean, featuring extensive glass façades and terraces that appear to float above the water.
The interiors are equally impressive. Some residences reportedly exceed 500 square metres of living space and include four bedrooms, expansive master suites and large open-plan living areas designed to maximize natural light and sea views. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide spectacular panoramic scenery, with one side overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the other offering views across the city of Monaco.
The outdoor areas are no less remarkable. Many properties feature private terraces exceeding 100 square metres, creating an unparalleled lifestyle experience in one of the world’s most desirable locations.
A Formula 1 enclave in Monaco
The neighbourhood has become something of a Formula 1 hotspot. Several current and former drivers either live or have lived in the area, including Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso, turning the district into an exclusive motorsport enclave.
Residents benefit from amenities more commonly associated with ultra-luxury hotels. These include 24-hour security, private spa facilities, panoramic swimming pools, professional fitness centres and reserved underground parking.
Although Max Verstappen already owned a luxury apartment in Monaco’s Fontvieille district valued at approximately $16 million, his move to Mareterra around a year ago represented a significant step up into an even more exclusive category of real estate.
Sharing that lifestyle with him are his partner Kelly Piquet and their daughters, Lily and Penelope. Together they enjoy one of the most prestigious addresses not only in Monaco, but anywhere in the world.
For Verstappen, Monaco is far more than a race destination. It is home, and judging by the location he proudly pointed out during the drivers’ parade, it is a home that perfectly reflects the extraordinary lifestyle enjoyed by Formula 1’s biggest stars.
