The Argentine rookie, Franco Colapinto, made his Formula 1 debut at Monza after Williams decided to release Logan Sargeant. So far, he has demonstrated remarkable abilities, and a top team like Red Bull might be tempted to take an interest.
Could the Milton Keynes team opt for the young Argentine in 2025?
“Everything he’s done since joining Williams at Monza has been impressive. He had a small incident and recovered, and there was no chance he would be dropped,” said Tom Clarkson, host of the F1 Nation podcast.
“At Singapore, a race that is mentally and physically tough, he finished just outside the points, but he was close to Alex Albon in qualifying. I can’t praise that guy enough!”
The young Argentine also impressed reporter Lawrence Barretto, who expressed his admiration for him: “That qualifying performance is something we’ll be talking about for a long time. This guy comes to tracks he doesn’t know, did well in his first circuit, and the second time he came within thousandths of the top drivers. He wants to prove he deserved this opportunity in Formula 1.”
However, as we know, Franco Colapinto will finish the season with Williams before making way for Carlos Sainz, so another team could target the young talent: “He has given many team principals headaches, just look at Red Bull. If Christian Horner says he would consider George Russell, why wouldn’t he consider Colapinto? He’s a driver who has done an incredible job as a substitute, just like Liam Lawson.”
“He opens up a new market and demographic in Argentina that Formula 1 hasn’t tapped into for a long time. If you’re looking at what to do in the future, he’s a strong candidate.”
Lawrence Barretto then added: “Helmut Marko isn’t afraid to make tough decisions, and he won’t want to let a talent like Colapinto slip away.”
We’re still talking about rumors, and if Perez leaves, this choice could also fall on Liam Lawson, depending on how well he finishes the season after Austin. As for the future, who knows…
