Farewells are in order at Stake F1: both Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu are departing, with the Chinese driver dedicating his final helmet to his teammate. An era comes to an end in Abu Dhabi: with Audi’s imminent arrival, Sauber has decided to replace both its drivers starting in 2025. Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will take their places, as the current duo leave the grid.
The last race of the year is always filled with emotion. The sunset in Abu Dhabi symbolizes the end of a season (for everyone), the end of a chapter in life (for some), or even the end of a career (for others). Whether it’s a goodbye or just a farewell, both Stake drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, could fall into these latter two categories.
Both joined Hinwil in 2022, replacing Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, and will leave the grid when the Abu Dhabi checkered flag waves. Three seasons together filled with hopes never fully realized but also memories that, as both assure, they will carry in their hearts forever. Thus, Zhou offers one last tribute: a special helmet themed around “memories.”
Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu: A Friendship Beyond the Track
“Here’s a special helmet, full of moments I loved,” Zhou Guanyu writes on his social media accounts, sharing photos of the special helmet he will wear in Abu Dhabi. It features images of his beloved cat Sweetcorn, memories of his first Chinese Grand Prix, and, most importantly, racing memories with Valtteri Bottas, with whom he has shared his entire Formula 1 career.
“It’s been a pleasure, Valtteri. I’ve loved all the highs and lows we’ve experienced together over the last three years. This is our last dance with Stake F1, let’s enjoy it!”
