In an interview, Valtteri Bottas made it clear that his priority is to return to racing, and therefore, in addition to Mercedes, he may consider opportunities outside of F1.
Valtteri Bottas spent five years at Mercedes after starting with Williams. In 2022, he left the German team to join Sauber. However, the driver of car number 77 was left without a seat by the former Alfa Romeo team and has now returned to Mercedes as a reserve driver.
Although Valtteri Bottas holds an important role within the team, the Finnish driver has other ideas for his future and has not ruled out the possibility of returning to full-time racing, even if it means leaving F1.
“I will give my best this year, doing everything I can for the team and trying to help as much as possible,” Bottas explained. He then added: “But if there were an opportunity to race, I doubt the team would stand in my way. We’ll see. First of all, let’s take it race by race, start the season, and then we’ll see what the year and 2026 have in store.”
Valtteri Bottas – Cadillac, could an opportunity arise?
It seems that Mercedes’ reserve driver has considered a return to the F1 grid with the new team set to debut in 2026. Cadillac has yet to confirm its driver lineup for 2026, although some potential names have already been mentioned.
Despite Valtteri Bottas’ strong desire to return to racing, he remains realistic. He acknowledged that rumors are already circulating about Cadillac’s potential drivers but believes it is still too early for any confirmations.
“I think they are still very busy setting up the team, preparing the board, and handling all those things. So no, nothing yet, it’s a bit too early for that. But we’ll see.”
