Are we sure “Trading Places” wasn’t filmed in Faenza?
Lights, camera, action! For a remake of the famous film “Trading Places,” there could hardly be a better setting than Faenza. The stars would undoubtedly be Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, former teammates at AlphaTauri and Racing Bulls, competing against each other ever since Sergio Perez’s departure.
An endless rivalry
Both drivers have had their chance at Red Bull, and despite coming off the best weekend of the year, it is unlikely that Yuki Tsunoda will be confirmed, just as it is unlikely that Helmut Marko will reverse course regarding Liam Lawson. With Isack Hadjar’s almost certain promotion to Milton Keynes and the arrival of Lindblad from Formula 2, the competition is set to reignite, this time for the final available seat at Faenza.
Regarding Tsunoda, Honda’s departure at the end of 2025 does not raise concerns. As repeatedly stated by the top management of the Anglo-Austrian team, the Japanese driver will be evaluated solely on his on-track performance. The end of support from the Asian manufacturer will therefore not be an obstacle to Tsunoda’s potential continuation in Formula 1.
In this context, Liam Lawson’s fifth-place finish (the best result of his career) and Yuki Tsunoda’s sixth place (his highest finish since joining Red Bull) represent only the first chapter in a season-long duel between the two drivers, who will continue to compete closely until the very end of the season.
