In Abu Dhabi, F1 continues to test cars at the end of the season, and Yuki Tsunoda took the opportunity to drive the Red Bull. The Japanese driver got behind the wheel of Max Verstappen’s RB20 and, for the first time in his career, wore the team’s race suit.
Yuki Tsunoda’s first time in the Red Bull
Yuki Tsunoda’s not-so-hidden dream is to drive for Red Bull in 2025. Sergio Perez is nearing the end of his tenure, and it is highly likely that last Sunday marked his final kilometers as Max Verstappen’s teammate. Today, the Japanese driver finally had the chance to try the RB20 and shared his impressions behind the wheel.
“The post-season test in Abu Dhabi was a lot of fun, it’s the first time in the last four years that I’ve driven a different car. You can physically feel why the RB20 fought for the championship this year; it feels very different to drive. Today we had a very productive day, so I’m very happy. I still have a lot to learn, but the team did a great job preparing for such a nice session today. There’s a very pleasant atmosphere in the garage.”

The Racing Bulls driver also hinted that he felt very comfortable with the car. These comments are undoubtedly not casual, given the speculation about finding Checo’s successor for next year.
“I feel like the car fits my driving style, and I didn’t struggle much to adapt. Even in long runs today, I was able to maintain a consistent pace and feel the limits of the car. If you don’t trust the car, you can’t test its limits. I’m happier than ever right now, and I want to make sure the team gets all the necessary information from each run. For me, that’s the most important thing to achieve today.”
