Williams gets a new look: special livery unveiled for the Silverstone GP
Formula 1 heads to Silverstone in England next weekend, and to celebrate its home Grand Prix in style, Williams has unveiled a special livery inspired by the Union Jack, the national flag of Great Britain. The patriotic design will feature not only on the FW48 race cars, but also on the drivers’ race suits and the team’s trackside apparel throughout the weekend.
Since Sir Frank Williams founded the team in 1977, Williams has claimed eight victories at Silverstone. To honour its British heritage, the Grove-based outfit has added distinctive red, white and blue accents to the nose and sidepods of the FW48.
Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz will also wear exclusive race suits featuring a matching design, while the mechanics and trackside personnel will sport special uniforms for the occasion. The team is using the British Grand Prix weekend to celebrate some of the most memorable moments in its Silverstone history, including Jacques Villeneuve’s landmark 100th Formula 1 victory for the team in 1997 and Nigel Mansell’s three unforgettable home wins.
Williams will also be hoping to add to its tally of 11 championship points by returning to the top ten, particularly after Carlos Sainz was forced to retire from the recent Austrian Grand Prix.
Following the announcement, Williams Team Principal James Vowles said:
“We are proud to represent the British Grand Prix this week. From our first victory to our 100th, Silverstone has been the stage for some of Atlassian Williams Racing’s most iconic moments, and there is nothing else on the Formula 1 calendar that can match the atmosphere created by our home crowd here.”
“Whether they’re cheering us on from the grandstands, supporting us in the Fan Zone or watching from home, we truly feel the energy of our fans, and we’ll carry that with us throughout the entire weekend.”
All set for Silverstone 🤩
