The news had been circulating for a while, but it was only this morning that it was officially confirmed. Red Bull has revealed the special livery that will be used during the Suzuka Grand Prix weekend, but why will it be white?
This will be the first Red Bull car driven by Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver was chosen by Horner and Marko to replace the disappointing Liam Lawson. The former Racing Bulls driver will have the chance to make his debut alongside Max Verstappen in his home race.
The reason behind the new livery
The reason for the new livery was explained by Red Bull itself. In the statement accompanying the first images of the white-painted RB21, the team explained the history behind the color scheme. “The team will celebrate Honda at their home race. To mark the final season together, Red Bull will use a special livery inspired by the Honda RA272.”
“This season marks the sixtieth anniversary of Honda’s first victory in Formula 1, and that’s why the design is based on the RA272, with which Richie Ginther secured victory at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix.”
“The livery features the ‘H’ logo on the nose and the Honda logo at the rear. There will also be a special logo to celebrate Honda’s first victory. This is the second time Red Bull has raced with a white livery in honor of the Japanese company. It happened before at the 2021 Turkish GP, and since then, fans have been asking for its return,” the statement reads.
