Cadillac has decided to make strategic use of Formula 1 regulations in order to gain additional time on track in Bahrain, taking advantage of a key opportunity that will allow the American team to work longer than many of its rivals during pre-season preparations.
Cadillac’s debut in Formula 1 will also be defined by its ability to exploit every possibility offered by the sporting and technical rules. Ahead of the 2026 F1 pre-season tests in Bahrain, the American squad has chosen to act earlier than its competitors, relying on a specific regulation that allows it to accumulate valuable mileage and begin closing the gap that became apparent during the Barcelona test.
By moving ahead of the rest of the field, Cadillac aims to recover part of the delay experienced during the initial shakedown, where limited running restricted the team’s ability to fully evaluate its new car. Extra laps in Bahrain will be crucial for improving reliability, refining procedures, and accelerating the learning curve for a team entering Formula 1 for the first time.
To achieve this, the American team will organise a filming day in Bahrain immediately before the start of the official February tests. This strategic decision will allow Cadillac to begin its setup work earlier, verify operational procedures, and continue the day-to-day development of the team in a competitive environment.
The additional running is expected to provide valuable data on car behaviour, systems checks, and workflow efficiency, all of which are vital for a new entrant preparing for its first full Formula 1 season. While rivals will still be limited to the standard testing schedule, Cadillac’s early start could prove significant over the course of the year.
At the same time, the US-based outfit is preparing to unveil its 2026 livery, which will mark the official visual debut of the Cadillac era in Formula 1. The launch will represent another important milestone as the team continues to build momentum ahead of its first competitive campaign.
