Esteban Ocon continues to chase his long-term ambition of becoming a Formula 1 world champion, with the Haas driver making it clear that his belief in that goal remains intact as he looks to the future.
The French driver may have experienced only a handful of standout moments during his Formula 1 career so far, but his determination to fight for a drivers’ title has not faded. Esteban Ocon stressed that he would not still be competing on the grid if he genuinely believed that reaching the top of the sport was no longer possible.
Esteban Ocon is preparing to begin his tenth season as a full-time Formula 1 driver this year, marking his second campaign with Haas after joining the American team at the start of last season alongside Oliver Bearman. Despite never having driven a car capable of consistently challenging for the championship, Ocon remains confident that his opportunity will eventually arrive.
“Yes, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. At this point in my career, I wouldn’t even be taking part,” Esteban Ocon said when asked about his dream of winning a world championship. “That’s where I want to get to in the future. It has happened to many drivers to find themselves in the right place at the right time.”
Reflecting on his recent past, the Frenchman added: “If I look back at 2023, when I was at Alpine, I think about Canada and the first races of the season. I was fighting with Lando for three races in a row, last-lap battles for P6 and P7. Now he’s there with a winning car. I think you should never give up, that’s the honest answer. I’m here to fight for that in the future, without a doubt.”
Esteban Ocon also underlined the personal commitment required to remain in Formula 1, explaining that his motivation goes beyond fighting for minor points. “Otherwise, why would I train this hard and make so many sacrifices just to be here fighting for P10? That’s what we’re doing at the moment, and that’s not really the dream,” he concluded.
Esteban Ocon’s unwavering belief in his championship potential highlights the fierce competitive spirit required to survive in the mid-field of Formula 1. By drawing parallels to Lando Norris’s ascent, Esteban Ocon remains focused on the long game, betting that his experience and resilience will eventually land him in a seat capable of fighting for the ultimate prize. As he enters his second year with Haas in the 2026 era, the Frenchman is clear: he is not just here to fill a spot on the grid, but to wait for the moment the technical stars align. His journey serves as a reminder that in F1, the distance between the mid-field struggle and world glory can be bridged by a single competitive car design.
