Between irony and reality. Over the years, we’ve seen drivers return to the track after a few seasons away from the F1 circus, but this time it would be quite a surprising scenario. Vitantonio Liuzzi appears to have put himself forward for one of Cadillac’s seats ahead of the American team’s F1 debut in 2026.
It’s worth noting that it’s hard to gauge how serious Vitantonio Liuzzi’s words really are. The former Italian driver, who has been serving as an FIA steward for years, said goodbye to Formula 1 fourteen years ago after leaving HRT in 2011.
After his time with Force India, he took part in other championships, including the GT World and a stint in Formula E with the Trulli GP team, founded by another legendary Italian driver, Jarno Trulli.
The official candidacy
During the Inside Line F1 podcast, Vitantonio Liuzzi himself talked about the possibility of a dramatic return to the circus with Cadillac. The American team, after announcing its entry into the top tier of F1 starting in 2026, is considering which drivers could be the right fit to help the team grow.
“I’m definitely open to this possibility. I’d like to send in my resume and see how it goes,” Liuzzi joked. “I’m a bit like Hulkenberg. After years of moving between teams, he seems to have settled in now.”
“There’s definitely still hunger and passion. I’m ready,” added the 44-year-old Italian.
Let’s be honest, the chances of Vitantonio Liuzzi returning to F1 with Cadillac are almost nonexistent. But in a circus like today’s, you never know.
