Sauber aims for its first point
It’s late autumn, but Kick Sauber’s mission remains the same as it has been since March: to score points in the Constructors’ Championship and erase the humiliating zero next to its name. In Las Vegas, the Hinwil team will look to build on the very modest progress seen in the Interlagos Qualifying session (where Valtteri Bottas started 11th) and will introduce another update that Team Representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi hopes will lay the groundwork for 2025.
Valtteri Bottas’ comments
This will be the last American event for the Valtteri Bottas-Guanyu Zhou duo, who will give way to Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto at the end of the Formula 1 season. The Finnish driver aims to end his full-time Formula 1 career on a high note during the Las Vegas-Qatar-Abu Dhabi tripleheader: “It’s a special moment, but it should motivate us to be even more competitive,” he said.
“Last year in Las Vegas, the atmosphere was incredible, and the race was very exciting; I can’t wait for this weekend. The track is trickier than it looks on paper: the low grip and cold temperatures pose challenges, and it’s a weekend that can cause some surprises,” he added. “In Brazil, we made decent progress, especially in qualifying: we cleared Q2 in both the Sprint and the main Qualifying session, which gave us confidence. With the updates that have been in the works for some time, I hope to see further progress this weekend. Our goal is to quickly achieve consistency so we can compete with other teams. Learning from what we’ve already accomplished and staying focused in this final stretch of the season will be our mission.”
Guanyu Zhou’s comments
“Returning to Las Vegas is exciting; last year, the entire event was very interesting, and having already raced here once, we have some foundations to build on,” Guanyu Zhou commented. “Brazil posed some challenges but also showed encouraging steps forward for the team, and we hope to capitalize on that. We’ve also brought some new components, and I’m eager to see how they perform on track. The margins remain quite small, so every improvement can be significant. Our goal will be to make steady progress right from the first practice session, ensuring we become comfortable with the circuit.” – the Chinese driver concluded.
