Valtteri Bottas may be preparing for a full-time return to the Formula 1 grid for the 2026 season. The possibility of seeing the experienced Finnish driver back on the starting grid is gaining momentum. Cadillac’s long-standing interest in securing a veteran driver for their entry into F1 is well known, and more recently, Alpine has also emerged as a potential option. Now serving as a reserve driver for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, Bottas has broken his silence regarding his future, confirming that discussions are indeed underway.
During the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, rumors circulated that the Alpine F1 Team was considering replacing Franco Colapinto with Jack Doohan for the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix. At the same time, the French outfit is also focusing on the development of Estonian driver Paul Aron, which could complicate any potential move for Bottas. It’s worth noting that the Doohan rumor was reported exclusively by Sky Sport F1 Italia, and therefore, it remains speculative and far from confirmed.
Bottas Opens Up About His Intentions
Valtteri Bottas is clearly pushing for a return to Formula 1, and his recent comments following the latest race confirm his desire to get back behind the wheel. As the Finnish driver put it, “I miss racing, and just watching is becoming increasingly difficult.” Mercedes has reportedly given Bottas the green light to seek out opportunities with other teams for a potential comeback starting in the next racing season.
The confirmation of ongoing negotiations came directly from Bottas himself: “We are working on it,” he stated, without revealing which team he might be in talks with. For now, the goal is clear — to race again. “We’re evaluating all options. I just want to get back to competing. If there’s any news to share, we’ll announce it — but for now, nothing is confirmed,” Bottas added.
Teams Are Watching — Bottas Is Ready
Bottas’s recent media appearances, combined with several subtle social media clues in recent weeks, make it clear that the driver is actively trying to relaunch his racing career. Interest from several teams appears to be real. Among the possibilities, Cadillac stands out as the most logical fit: the American team is seeking at least one experienced and technically skilled driver to lead its ambitious F1 project set to begin in 2026.
Given the timing, it’s highly likely that any official announcements will be made during the summer break — the traditional period when teams make decisions and finalize their lineups for the upcoming season. As the Formula 1 driver market begins to heat up, Valtteri Bottas is once again a name to watch.
