Following the internal earthquake within Red Bull Racing caused by the dismissal of Christian Horner, the team’s long-time and highly successful Team Principal, the first reaction has arrived from the inner circle of Max Verstappen. Speaking publicly was Raymond Vermeulen, the manager of the three-time Formula 1 World Champion, who issued a brief but telling statement.
“We were informed in advance by Red Bull management that this decision had been made,” said Vermeulen, referring to Christian Horner’s departure. His words confirm that Max Verstappen’s entourage was not blindsided by the decision and had prior knowledge of the move, which reinforces the idea that this was a premeditated and coordinated transition.
Christian Horner’s Exit Leaves a Void, But Verstappen Stays Focused on Performance
While the separation from Christian Horner represents a major shift within Red Bull Racing, Raymond Vermeulen made it clear that the focus of Max Verstappen and his team remains unchanged. Choosing not to enter into any polemic, Vermeulen emphasized that the priority continues to be performance on track and maintaining competitive momentum, even as the team navigates a sensitive leadership transition.
“It is up to Red Bull to provide further explanations about the reasons for the dismissal. From our side, we continue to look at the sporting aspect and aim to improve our performance in order to return to the top. From that perspective, nothing will change,” the Dutch manager added.
The professional and personal relationship between Christian Horner and Max Verstappen has been a fundamental element in the success and growth of Red Bull Racing in recent years. However, with Horner now gone and Laurent Mekies reportedly moving closer to assuming top-level leadership within the team, a new chapter is beginning. All eyes are now on how Max Verstappen will respond on track to this significant internal disruption.
A Challenging Season and an Uncertain Future for Verstappen
This season has already shown signs of difficulty for the reigning World Champion. In the last five Grand Prix races, Max Verstappen has missed the podium on four occasions – a stark contrast to his dominance in previous seasons. Nonetheless, as Vermeulen reiterated, the mission remains clear: stay competitive, extract maximum potential from the current Red Bull package, and avoid being distracted by the surrounding instability.
The recent leadership shake-up at Red Bull may also have long-term implications for Max Verstappen’s own future. While the Dutch driver is under contract with Red Bull Racing through the end of the 2028 season, persistent rumors continue to link him to a potential move to Mercedes. For now, though, his management team is sending a clear message: no drama, total focus on the current championship battle.
“From that perspective, nothing will change,” Vermeulen repeated – but within the Formula 1 paddock, it is well understood that in moments as delicate as these, even the most stable internal dynamics can shift rapidly.
