The first day
With the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday evening—bringing the 2025 Formula 1 season to a close—a new chapter has begun in the sporting life of Valtteri Bottas. The Finnish veteran, who served as Mercedes reserve driver last season, officially became a Cadillac driver on Monday. The American team, which will join the grid next year as the 11th team in the championship, has entrusted its debut season to Valtteri Bottas and Mexican driver Sergio Perez.
While Perez had already had the chance to familiarize himself with the new team, being a free agent, Valtteri Bottas had to wait a few extra months. Now, finally, the former Williams, Mercedes, and Sauber driver was able to visit the team’s factory and complete the traditional seat fitting. Time is pressing, as the first 2026 pre-season tests are scheduled to begin in Barcelona on January 26.
“We have a lot of work ahead”
Bottas completed his seat fitting at Cadillac’s Silverstone factory and shared his first statements as a full-fledged team driver, under a two-year contract. “I am excited to finally start working as a driver for the Cadillac team,” said the 2019 and 2020 vice-world champion. “I am proud of this moment, which marks the beginning of a new chapter for a team starting its journey in this sport.”
“We have a lot of work ahead,” added the #77 Finnish driver. “I am eager to bring my experience to the team now that I am officially part of it. Seeing everything take shape for the first time in a brand-new team is special and shows you the momentum behind the project. It is important to prepare thoroughly, because these moments are really the first steps to be ready for the first test. I can’t wait for the season to begin and to get back on track.” – the Finn concluded.
