From Sicily to Formula 1. After months of working behind the scenes in the simulator and alongside the Alpine team, Gabriele Minì has finally reached one of the biggest milestones of his young career: driving a Formula 1 car for the very first time, in an experience that is certain to remain one of the defining moments of his career.
The Palermo-born driver was given the opportunity to get behind the wheel of an Alpine Formula 1 car as part of a dedicated testing programme, which began at the Hungaroring before continuing at Silverstone, allowing him to experience the French team’s car on track for the first time.
The TPC (Testing of Previous Cars) programme, which uses Formula 1 cars that are at least two seasons old, enabled the talented driver from Marineo to familiarise himself with Formula 1 machinery, build valuable mileage and further strengthen his position within Alpine’s junior driver programme.
The opportunity has come at a particularly important stage of Minì’s season. The Italian is fully involved in the Formula 2 title fight against Nikola Tsolov and will return to action this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps—often referred to as the university of motorsport—as he continues his bid for the championship.
Minì’s Formula 1 debut also comes at a particularly delicate moment in the driver market. Several drivers across the grid are expected to change teams, while a number of seats remain undecided for the future.
That situation could create new opportunities for emerging talents such as Gabriele Minì, who is moving ever closer to fulfilling his dream of becoming the next Italian driver to race in Formula 1.
