F1 | Wolff warns Mercedes: “Feet on the ground, Ferrari lost 30 points in a single race”
Mercedes has climbed back to second place in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship after the Brazilian Grand Prix, but Toto Wolff is calling for caution. The team principal of the Brackley outfit stressed that the landscape can shift rapidly, using Ferrari’s disastrous Sunday in Interlagos as a clear reminder of how unpredictable the season can be. The second place secured by Andrea Kimi Antonelli and the fourth position taken by George Russell allowed Mercedes to move ahead of the Scuderia from Maranello, which endured a nightmare weekend marked by the retirements of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. The result pushed the Anglo-German team to a 32-point advantage over Red Bull, now third, with three races still remaining.
Although pleased with Mercedes’ current momentum, Toto Wolff emphasised that one difficult weekend can overturn everything. “We’ve seen how quickly everything can change,” he explained. “A double retirement like Ferrari suffered can be extremely costly while others pick up important points. A margin of 30 points can disappear in a single race. We must keep our feet on the ground and continue working day by day, weekend after weekend.”
