Mercedes enjoyed another strong weekend, with George Russell claiming his second victory of the season at the Singapore Grand Prix, following his win in Canada. Once again, Russell secured pole position and demonstrated commanding pace throughout the race.
Unlike Montreal, Mercedes did not achieve a double podium, but Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s impressive fifth place allowed the Brackley-based team to extend its lead in the battle for second place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Toto Wolff praises his drivers
Toto Wolff spoke to Sky Sports after an excellent Sunday: “On paper, Singapore was expected to be a challenging track for us due to the high temperatures, but George Russell and the Mercedes proved to be a dominant driver-car combination. I’m not sure if we can replicate this level of performance in the upcoming weekends because with ground-effect cars, anything can happen.”
Wolff also had positive words for Andrea Kimi Antonelli: “Antonelli was excellent as well. During the overtake on Charles Leclerc, he applied perfect pressure on the brake pedal. The data shows he could not have done better. He is continuing his growth process and showing real potential.”
