Toto Wolff praises George Russell after P3 in Chinese GP: “An impeccable race, 10 out of 10”. Toto Wolff highlighted George Russell’s performance in China.

Still in the top-3
This marks George Russell’s second consecutive podium in the first two races of the season, with the Mercedes driver securing 3rd place in both events. After finishing in the top three in the chaotic Australian GP, the Briton established himself as the ‘best of the rest’ behind McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who demonstrated a stronger pace than the competition in the last Chinese Grand Prix, which was held at the 5.451-kilometre Shanghai International Circuit.

Toto Wolff’s congratulations
A performance that highlighted the qualities of the 27-year-old driving the W16 at the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season, but one especially appreciated by Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff. In an interview with Viaplay after the race, the Austrian manager fully praised George Russell’s performance with the following words: “The word ‘solid’ doesn’t do it justice, because he had an impeccable race. He maximized the car and the tires. For me, it was a 10 out of 10 race.” – he pointed out.

A 3rd place that comes at a very competitive moment in the battle among the top teams, with McLaren currently in the lead but followed by Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari, who won the Sprint with Lewis Hamilton before the shocking double disqualification in the race: “The podium is the best realistic result based on the conditions,” he added. “It wasn’t just McLaren, but also Max Verstappen, who can never be discounted, and Ferrari, so it’s fine. The ambition is to win, but right now we don’t feel entitled to do so. We’re not good enough yet; we’re second in the championship.” – the Mercedes team boss concluded.
