The event ended a week ago, and many are still talking about it. The F1 Show at the O2 Arena in London sparked both enthusiasm and debate. While many saw it as something unnecessary, where once again entertainment prevailed over sport, many others appreciated it. The lowest point of the evening came when the Red Bull drivers took the stage. The fans, from the stands, directed a wave of boos at Verstappen. Despite this, Toto Wolff praised the spectators at the event.
The F175, which had been presented as one of the most spectacular events in recent centuries, was a major disappointment. Among music, DJs, dancing, choreographies, and light shows, the space given to the teams for the car presentations was only seven minutes. Some drivers even decided not to make any statements to the presenters. The show overshadowed the sport.
Right after the incident, the words of the four-time world champion’s father, Jos Verstappen, came out. Jos Verstappen stated that his son would no longer participate in such events if a situation like the one in London were to happen again. It is not the first time that the Red Bull driver has been booed. On several occasions under the podiums of various Grands Prix, especially when he was racing alongside Sergio Perez, Mexican fans always made sure to show their support for Checo.
Toto Wolff also addressed the issue. The Mercedes team principal, interviewed by Sky Sports, didn’t miss the opportunity to tease the Dutch driver. “I don’t think Max really received boos from the crowd. In any case, I don’t think we should speak badly about an extraordinary event like that just because one person was booed while speaking to the crowd. I think it was a great evening, with exceptional spectators, and a nice presentation of the cars that sets a new standard for the years to come. That’s the positive aspect we should be talking about.”
Of course, there was also a joke aimed at his direct rival, Christian Horner. “I didn’t boo him. There were already 15,000 people doing it. It wasn’t necessary for me to do it too.”
