The wait is over. Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, February 26, until the 28th, Formula 1 will fire up its engines again and track activity will resume. After two long months of winter break, it’s finally time for the three crucial pre-season testing days that, as in recent years, will take place on the Bahrain circuit. Oscar Piastri revealed a few hours ago some important updates coming to his McLaren MCL39. What can we expect from the Woking car?
On paper, McLaren enters 2025 as the favorite. Last year, the superiority of the car was clear. This is what allowed them to win the Constructors’ Championship after many years. Surely, if it hadn’t been for some errors from both drivers, the title race wouldn’t have stretched all the way to the final Grand Prix.
It’s on these foundations that the Woking team arrives in Bahrain. The 2025 car, based on the images circulating from their first test at Silverstone, is an extreme version of the 2024. Whether this will translate into an advantage, we don’t yet know, but it certainly intimidates the direct competitors. The first evaluations of the new cars’ performance will be postponed until the end of the three pre-season test days.
Meanwhile, a few hours ago, Oscar Piastri, interviewed by RacingNews365, announced some important updates that McLaren will bring to the track starting from tomorrow. “There are some important things on the new car that everyone will definitely see tomorrow. It’s obviously an exciting moment for F1, as it will enter a new era starting in 2026.”
“It will be very interesting to see how all the teams, including us, manage to find a balance between the priorities of 2025 and those for next year. It promises to be a very tight season. We hope the car is a good step forward compared to 2024. We’ll have to wait until Melbourne to truly know where we stand. For now, we’re confident that the way we’ve worked in recent months is the right one.”
This will also be the season where the two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, will have to show they’ve truly matured. Last year, both made mistakes in various situations. Piastri made several errors during the season, like the one in Abu Dhabi, while Norris struggled mentally. Since he started battling Verstappen, the English driver began accumulating mistakes, which ultimately kept him in second place in the driver standings.
