VCARB has an exceptional fan: actor Timothée Chalamet managed to go unnoticed at the Miami GP thanks to a “particular” technique to avoid being recognized.
The Miami GP attracts celebrities and famous figures from all over the world, and this year featured a special fan: Timothée Chalamet.
We’re in the United States, where Formula 1 has recently experienced incredible growth. Not only Miami, but also Austin and Las Vegas are places where actors, singers, and artists show off their outfits while strolling through the paddock and pit lane.
Among them, one celebrity went unnoticed. Timothée Chalamet is now a regular name in Hollywood. After his breakout role in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name, the 29-year-old star appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and has since landed increasingly important roles in Little Women, Dune, Don’t Look Up, Wonka, and A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic.
Timothée Chalamet entered the Miami GP paddock without being recognized, as revealed by Ted Kravitz on the Sky Sports F1 podcast. “He was in disguise. He entered the paddock wearing a Toro Rosso shirt—not the pink one, but the usual race shirt—and blue trousers,” the Formula 1 expert said. “He’s a Fremen, he’s Paul Atreides, he’s Willy Wonka, he’s Bob Dylan—he’s a master of disguise.”
The well-known British journalist explained that the actor was mistaken for a Racing Bulls mechanic, and none of the photographers noticed him. “People were wondering if Timothée Chalamet was there, but his name wasn’t on the official celebrity list. If it had been, everyone would’ve said, ‘Oh my God, Timothée Chalamet is here!’”
The actor’s name was not on VCARB’s guest list, so even the team was surprised to find him in the garage. For each race, Formula 1 prepares a list of celebrities expected to attend. This helps photographers get ready and know who to look out for. If a name isn’t on the list, someone like Chalamet can walk right by without anyone realizing who it is.
The American star was welcomed in the Racing Bulls garage by the team and its drivers. Chalamet also met Rafaela Ferreira, the F1 Academy driver supported by the Faenza-based team.
