The verbal clashes between Christian Horner and Toto Wolff, team principals of Red Bull and Mercedes respectively, show no signs of dying down. During the press conference on Friday in Abu Dhabi, the Englishman responded to his rival who had disparagingly referred to him as a “terrier.”
After the weekend in Qatar, the altercations between Max Verstappen and George Russell, stemming from the post-qualifying discussion with the stewards in Losail, reignited. With the controversy between the two drivers, the dispute between their respective team principals, Christian Horner and Toto Wolff, also flared up again.
On the eve of the Yas Marina weekend, the Austrian Mercedes team boss had defended his driver, Russell, against the accusations made by the Red Bull team principal. Wolff hadn’t been kind to his counterpart from Milton Keynes: “Why does he feel entitled to comment on my driver? If you think about it for 90 seconds, it’s a little terrier talking, he always has something to say.”
Christian Horner’s sharp reply to Toto Wolff
As expected, Toto Wolff’s biting statement didn’t end the dispute with Chris Horner, who, during the team principal press conference, responded by poking his rival. “Is it so negative to be compared to a terrier?” the Austrian team principal asked.
“Terriers aren’t afraid to face bigger dogs,” Horner explained, looking on the bright side, before stabbing Wolff with a sharp wordplay. “I’d rather be a terrier than a wolf!”
