Since their introduction in Formula 1, Sprint races have received more criticism than praise from professionals and fans alike. However, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has expressed his support for them.
Guenther Steiner’s controversial comment
Here’s what the Italian had to say: “How would I improve today’s F1? First of all, I’d add more Sprint races, increasing them to 12 instead of the current 6.”
“I enjoy weekends where the competition starts as early as Friday with Sprint qualifying and a first race on Saturday,” he added.
However, this isn’t the only change Steiner would make to motorsport’s premier class: “Formula 1 is one of the biggest sports in the world; it’s not right that stewards aren’t full-time employees.”
“Football referees are professionals and get paid for their work, so it’s only fair that responsibility in Formula 1 is equally rewarded,” he concluded.
