Challenging Sunday ahead for Gasly and Albon
The pit lane at Marina Bay is expected to be busy even before the race start. Both Pierre Gasly in the Alpine and Alexander Albon in the Williams will line up in the pit lane for the Singapore GP. For the two drivers, who already suffered in an unlucky qualifying session yesterday, Sunday promises to be an even tougher challenge – live coverage on ScuderiaFans.com starts at 13:45, with the race beginning at 14:00.
Specifically, Pierre Gasly had to park his A525 near turn 11 due to an electronic issue that disabled the power steering, while Alex Albon initially qualified 12th but was later disqualified, along with teammate Carlos Sainz (who will still start from the grid), due to a technical irregularity related to the maximum DRS flap movement.
Parc fermé changes explained
Both drivers now face an additional penalty from the FIA stewards just hours before the race due to substantial changes made to their cars under parc fermé conditions. Alpine mechanics decided to replace the floor of Pierre Gasly’s car with a different specification, while Williams altered the suspension setup on Albon’s car. Both changes are prohibited under the regulations, which restrict most component and setup modifications after qualifying. As a result, both Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon are forced to start the Singapore GP from the pit lane.
The only driver to benefit from this situation is Carlos Sainz. Originally set to start from 20th and last on the grid, he will now start 18th, moving ahead of both Gasly and Albon, who would have occupied 18th and 19th respectively.
