Sergio Perez loses part of Cadillac during Brazilian GP FP3 as bizarre team radio exchange unfolds

Sergio Perez, Cadillac, 2026 F1

Sergio Perez was involved in a bizarre team radio exchange during the third free practice session of the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix after a small component came loose from his Cadillac at Interlagos. The Mexican driver was questioned by his race engineer after an object was spotted leaving the cockpit during his out-lap, but even Perez appeared uncertain about exactly what had happened.

The unusual incident provided an unexpected moment during Saturday’s FP3 session in São Paulo. With Cadillac attempting to establish what had fallen from the car, Sergio Perez offered a tentative explanation that prompted an immediate response from the pit wall.

Sergio Perez questioned after mysterious object leaves Cadillac during Brazilian GP FP3

The incident occurred during Sergio Perez’s out-lap, when a small component was seen leaving the cockpit of his Cadillac. His race engineer contacted him over the team radio to establish what had happened and identify the object.

“We noticed you threw something out of the cockpit during the out-lap. What was it?” the engineer asked.

Initially unsure of the exact nature of the component, Perez explained that something appeared to have become detached inside the car. He suggested that the object might have been associated with the area containing the radio cables.

“I’m not exactly sure. I think something came loose. Maybe a small box in the area where the radio cables are housed,” the Cadillac driver replied.

Cadillac engineers promise investigation after unusual team radio exchange

The response from the Cadillac pit wall was immediate, with the engineer acknowledging Sergio Perez’s description and confirming that the team would investigate the matter.

“A small box, understood. We’ll carry out the necessary checks,” came the reply.

The exchange highlighted the unusual circumstances surrounding the incident, with neither the driver nor the team immediately able to identify precisely what had left the cockpit.

Cadillac’s engineers were consequently left to investigate the missing component following an unexpected moment during the final practice session ahead of the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.
