Sauber enters the Italian GP at Monza aiming for points
Sauber is preparing to be competitive for the final European round of the 2025 Formula 1 season. The Italian Grand Prix at Monza could provide new opportunities for the team to re-enter the points battle. Let’s take a closer look at the thoughts and expectations of Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Italian weekend.
Hulkenberg focuses on Monza
“The latter part of the season hasn’t started as we had planned, but not every race can be perfect,” said Nico Hulkenberg. “Now, all of our energy is focused on achieving a strong result in Monza. Before the summer break, we showed encouraging form, and our goal is to return to that level this weekend. Monza is always special: the history, the passionate fans, and the unique atmosphere in the paddock.”
“It’s also the last European round before we head overseas, so it’s important to finish this part of the season on a positive note. I’m confident that we can pull everything together and return to our recent performances, fighting for points,” Hulkenberg added.
Bortoleto enjoys the Monza challenge
Gabriel Bortoleto also shared his enthusiasm for the Italian track: “Monza means a lot to me. I have great memories from my Formula 2 victory here last year, and having lived in Italy for several years, I feel somewhat at home. There’s something truly special about this circuit, with its incredible motorsport history and the energy it gives you that extra push,” he admitted.
While the Dutch Grand Prix didn’t go as planned, the team remains determined not to give up after a challenging start. With several races still ahead, Bortoleto remains optimistic: “The weekend at Zandvoort was tough, but the team atmosphere remains positive. The first part of the season showed what we are capable of, and that’s the level we intend to return to. I can’t wait to get back in the car, make the most of the weekend, and fight for a significant result to close out the European races on a high note.”
Jonathan Wheatley on the team’s preparation
Sauber Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley reflected on the team’s performance: “Zandvoort wasn’t the result we hoped for, but that doesn’t take away from the progress we’ve made so far this season. While we need to reflect and analyze what went wrong in the Netherlands, we know the C45 is competitive, and the team is focused on returning to the points.”
“Monza is a circuit that means a lot to me personally, with its history and tradition, but also because of the incredible atmosphere created by the fans. As we conclude the European portion of the season, we want to finish strong. We’ve seen many improvements during this phase of the championship, and we still have a lot to give in the remaining nine races,” Wheatley concluded.
