Liam Lawson’s adventure with Red Bull seems to have already come to an end after only two races. The New Zealander apparently failed to meet the expectations the Austrian team’s management had for him, and for this reason, he could be replaced by Yuki Tsunoda at the next GP in Suzuka.
As we reported earlier, the team’s senior advisor Helmut Marko had already spoken about this possibility, given the poor performance of the young rookie. However, two main rumors are circulating online at the moment.
The first, reported by motorsport.com, suggests that from the Suzuka race, the Japanese driver from VCARB would finally be promoted to race alongside Max Verstappen in the main team, with Lawson returning to drive for the Faenza team alongside Isack Hadjar.
The second option, proposed by the Spanish version of the site, also sees Yuki Tsunoda next to Max Verstappen, but this time Franco Colapinto would join Racing Bulls, leaving the New Zealander from the Austrian academy without a seat. According to recent reports, this rumor gained momentum in the past few hours, as contacts between Racing Bulls and Alpine intensified even after the Shanghai Grand Prix.
Red Bull’s satellite team is reportedly strongly targeting the Argentine driver, though Flavio Briatore doesn’t want to let him go, as he is also monitoring the performances of Jack Doohan. If the Australian doesn’t improve his results, the French team may also make a change. We’ll have to wait and see how the situation evolves within both teams ahead of the next Grand Prix.
