A bitter Melbourne for the Australian
Jack Doohan’s home Grand Prix ended in disappointment. The Alpine driver crashed into the wall on the first lap, just a few hundred meters in, at the point where the first sector timing beam is located.
Judging by the footage and radio messages from the Mercedes pit wall to Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Jack Doohan may have made the mistake of touching the white line—a real trap in wet conditions.
It’s worth noting that Alpine has Franco Colapinto under contract as a reserve driver. This disastrous start to 2025 is certainly not helping Jack Doohan distance himself from the looming presence of the Argentine, strongly backed by Flavio Briatore. Melbourne has delivered a brutal welcome to most of this season’s rookies—Kimi Antonelli was eliminated in Q1,Isack Hadjar crashed on the formation lap, and Jack Doohan didn’t even complete the first lap.
