Fourth row start for the Dutchman
“I’ve spent more time outside than inside the top 10 this weekend, so in the end, I have to be satisfied,” said Max Verstappen as he began commenting on his qualifying result at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he made it to Q3 and finished in eighth position.
The four-time world champion will start alongside his friend Gabriel Bortoleto, who narrowly beat him by three thousandths of a second, placing his Sauber ahead of Verstappen’s Red Bull. Verstappen does not expect a dramatic comeback during the race, especially since he will also have to watch his mirrors: “I have three cars ahead that I can fight with, but Hamilton will be coming from behind because he shouldn’t be there,” Max Verstappen said, referring to the fact that Ferrari SF-25 #44 will start from the sixth row while Charles Leclerc’s teammate will be on pole position.
Max Verstappen reiterated that Red Bull’s goal now is simply to have some good weekends from now until Abu Dhabi without high ambitions: “We’re no longer fighting for the championship, and we’ll try to be competitive where we can. Here, I expected we would struggle, but definitely not to this extent. A year ago, we were just a few hundredths away from pole position; this year, from the very first lap, we were out of the game with no grip either front or rear. Is this the worst weekend since I started with Red Bull? We have also had disastrous weekends in Singapore.” – the four-time Formula 1 world champion concluded ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix/
