A Positive Run for Sauber
From the Spanish Grand Prix to the recent Belgian race, Sauber has been enjoying an impressive run of form. Over five consecutive races, the Swiss team has consistently finished in the points, highlighted by Nico Hülkenberg’s podium finish at Silverstone, which stands as the team’s best result this season. Additionally, Sauber secured a double top-10 finish at the Red Bull Ring, demonstrating significant progress.
Team Growth and Ambitions
Sauber’s goal is to complete the first half of the 2025 Formula 1 season on a high note during this weekend’s race at the Hungaroring. This venue will host the last event before the summer break begins. Hülkenberg, currently ninth in the Drivers’ Championship thanks to five point-scoring finishes, four of them consecutive, emphasized the team’s encouraging progress: “We’ve had a promising run over the last two months, fighting to climb through the midfield and scoring important points, including a podium. Currently, we sit sixth in the Constructors’ Championship,” said the experienced German driver. “Despite a challenging start to the season, we have improved almost every weekend, thanks to everyone working hard behind the scenes both on track and back at Hinwil. Now we head to the Hungaroring for the second race in this double-header, a classic circuit where I’ve enjoyed racing in the past. Our goal is to finish strongly and consolidate this momentum before the summer break.”
Personal Development
After a challenging start to the season, rookie Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto has made progress in recent races, scoring points first in Austria and more notably at the last event in Spa-Francorchamps. Reflecting on his debut season’s first half, Bortoleto said, “This weekend marks the end of my first half-season, and looking back, I feel I’ve grown and learned a lot. The team has supported me throughout, starting from my very first test. Their help, along with the support of my teammate Nico, has been crucial. Every weekend I feel more confident in the car and have begun achieving encouraging results, including some appearances in Q3 and points finishes. Budapest is another opportunity to learn and improve, and I want to make the most of it, continuing our recent strong form before a well-deserved break for all of us.”
