New Checks on Flexible Wings
On the day Formula 1 unveiled its liveries at the grand London show, the paddock was also working on finalizing the new regulations for the 2025 Formula One season. The F1 Commission discussed the issue of wing flexibility, a topic that sparked major controversy in the second half of 2024.
Starting from the Spanish Grand Prix (the ninth race of the season), new and stricter tests on the flexibility of the front wing will be introduced. Similar checks on the rear wing will already be implemented from Melbourne, the opening round of the 2025 World Championship. This dual approach does not entirely convince Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, who fears soaring costs due to mid-season wing modifications.
Christian Horner’s Words
“It’s good that they’ve decided to address the issue,” said the Briton. “It’s clear that something has changed. The front wing will be modified after the ninth race—I don’t know why, but that’s what they decided. Essentially, this means we have one set of issues to deal with before Montmeló and another set to handle after Montmeló, and that will significantly drive up costs.”
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur also commented on the wing issue, applauding the FIA’s clarity on a topic that has sparked debates and, at times, cast doubt over certain results.
