Andrea Stella has outlined McLaren’s approach for the final part of the Formula 1 season, which has been reignited following Lando Norris’ stunning victory in Mexico. With just four races left on the calendar, the British team can no longer afford any mistakes, especially as their two drivers are separated by only one point in the standings – while Max Verstappen remains in contention for the championship.
Stella explains McLaren’s end-of-season management
Despite finishing third behind Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen managed to close the gap in the standings, once again becoming a serious threat in the title battle. McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella is fully aware of this and explained after the race how the team plans to manage the situation and maintain their strong form.
“Lando was dominant throughout the entire weekend,” Stella said. “He fully deserved the victory here in Mexico. As a team, we’re very pleased to have received the confirmation we needed regarding the performance of our car. In a few races, we didn’t maximize our potential, so this result gives us confidence heading into the next few weeks. I’m also happy with what Oscar managed to do after a difficult Saturday. I’m sure he’ll be back fighting for victories soon.”
Stella added that the close battle between Norris and Piastri is a positive situation for McLaren: “Having just one point separating our two drivers is actually a great problem to have — every team dreams of seeing both of their drivers fighting for the title. Our main goal remains to keep Verstappen behind us and let the best man win the championship in the end. Now we move on to Brazil, which should be a favorable track for us, and we’ll aim to fight for another win.”
