Red Bull revived after Horner exit: is Laurent Mekies the key to the resurgence?
Following the departure of Christian Horner, we are witnessing a transformed Red Bull: under Laurent Mekies’ leadership, the team has regained polish and tenacity, with Max Verstappen showing a significantly stronger pace, particularly in the second half of the season. In the pit lane, Yuki Tsunoda is also showing subtle but noticeable improvements, feeling much more comfortable since the arrival of his former team principal.
Race Anatomy experts have commented on Red Bull’s change in perspective after reviewing the team’s weekend. Ivan Capelli noted, “The team is improving steadily; something has definitely gotten better.” Mario Miyakawa added insight on Horner’s role, stating, “It’s not the fault of one person, but a presence can trigger divergences.”
Engineer Mazzola further explained: “I don’t think it’s only down to Laurent Mekies. They developed the car independently of the team principal. They understood where to focus and got it right. However, the presence of a TP can influence decisions on track or affect the team environment, and clearly, it can impact overall team well-being.”
Opinions align while also clashing with each other, but one thing is clear: the absence of a strong figure like Horner has influenced the team’s transformation. Only time and the start of the next season will reveal more complete details about the post-Horner effect, which, for now, appears more positive than ever. What do you think? Has Horner’s exit been beneficial or detrimental for Red Bull?
