F1 | Waché reveals: Red Bull tackled a major flaw to stay strong in Singapore
Pierre Waché has revealed that Red Bull sees the Singapore Grand Prix as an important test for the team. Max Verstappen has secured back-to-back victories, closing the gap to McLaren’s drivers in the championship. Singapore has historically been a challenging circuit for Red Bull, but this season could see a change in fortunes. The technical director of the Milton Keynes team shared insights on the work carried out on the RB21.
The circuits of Baku and Monza, where Verstappen claimed his two most recent wins, have characteristics very different from the upcoming round. Both are low-downforce tracks where tyre wear is minimal. One factor that could help in Singapore is the reduced temperatures, which might suit the Red Bull car better than in previous years.
The upgrades introduced on the RB21
During an appearance on the F1 Nation podcast, Pierre Waché explained that the updates introduced by Red Bull could also be beneficial in Singapore. The team focused on addressing a flaw in the RB21, which will only be officially confirmed as resolved if the car performs well at the Asian venue.
“We installed a new floor on the car, which seems to work well,” the technical director revealed. “Perhaps we have also found a setup approach with this new floor that opens up new opportunities.” This suggests it could be a definitive solution, providing advantages not only at Monza and Baku but potentially beyond.
“Everything indicates that we are more competitive on low-downforce tracks. But we will see in Singapore where we really stand. It is a circuit that has not been among our best historically. It will be the true test. If we are competitive there and do not lose too much ground compared to our rivals, then we can say we have solved our problem,” Pierre Waché added.
Waché also responded to comments from Andrea Stella, who said Verstappen is still in contention for the Drivers’ Championship. The team’s current focus is solely on beating Mercedes and Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship, a scenario that looks increasingly likely, especially if Yuki Tsunoda maintains the pace he showed in Azerbaijan.
