Could Yuki Tsunoda’s 2026 future be with Aston Martin?
Yuki Tsunoda’s place in Formula 1 for the 2026 season remains uncertain. After four years with Red Bull’s satellite team, AlphaTauri (now VCARB), the Japanese driver no longer seems to be at the center of Red Bull’s long-term plans. His limited points over seven Grands Prix and inconsistent performances alongside Max Verstappen—who, despite the technical struggles of a Red Bull not quite matching McLaren, still manages to extract maximum results—have cast doubts on his future.
Even after a strong and consistent points-scoring performance in Baku, Yuki Tsunoda has not entirely silenced questions about his future with the Austrian outfit. With Isack Hadjar showing promising results and a level of consistency that Red Bull values, and considering that Yuki Tsunoda’s expectations this season have not been fully met, he faces a crossroads: either attempt to revive a difficult season with Red Bull to secure a seat in 2026, or explore alternative seats—which currently appear limited.
A possible future at Aston Martin? Andretti could open the door
Thanks to the Honda-Aston Martin partnership starting in 2026, Yuki Tsunoda could find a potential seat at the British team, supported by the backing of a Japanese sponsor. With Felipe Drugovich announcing his move to Formula E with the American Andretti team, Yuki Tsunoda’s path in Formula 1 could involve stepping in as Aston Martin’s third driver—a seat vacated by the Brazilian—with possible assurances for a future full-time race seat.
While Yuki Tsunoda’s time in Formula 1 may be limited, at least regarding an on-track seat in 2026, commercial strategies and political considerations mean that there is still a chance he could remain behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in the future.
