Recently, there was controversy regarding the possible disqualification of Max Verstappen for the Austrian Grand Prix. Arvid Lindblad was mentioned as a potential replacement after Red Bull requested a Super Licence from the FIA before he turned 18. The young British Formula 2 driver spoke directly on this topic.
Arvid has been showing the pace and speed to be considered for a future in Formula 1. This season he has already taken two victories and, despite being a rookie, is throwing himself into the fight for the drivers’ championship. It’s been a rapid adaptation to the new category, though there’s still work to be done to fully showcase his skills and potential.
The future at Red Bull
As already known, Red Bull had applied to the FIA for Lindblad’s Super Licence. Although he has not yet turned 18, the licence can be granted as an exception if certain conditions are met. The F2 driver commented on the matter, providing clarity about his future.
“I’m honoured to have received the Super Licence and very happy to have the opportunity to take part in F1-related activities,” he told media. Naturally, the Brit is waiting for instructions from the team: “The decision about what I’ll do is obviously up to Red Bull.”
One of the questions asked concerned the rumours that he could replace Max in case of a disqualification for the Dutchman. Arvid Lindblad was clear in his response: “I wasn’t directly involved in those discussions. The Super Licence was requested in February, and I think it’s just a coincidence that I received it at this time.”
The young talent has been compared to Max Verstappen in terms of ability, but he preferred to stay humble: “It’s definitely nice to hear people say I’m at that level, but I’m still very young. I’m focused on doing my best and trying to drive as fast as I can.”
