Red Bull has confirmed that Isack Hadjar will remain alongside Max Verstappen for the 2027 Formula 1 season, completing its driver line-up for next year. The French driver, who returns to racing at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku after recovering from a wrist injury, has earned a contract extension following a strong first half of his debut campaign with the Milton Keynes team.
Isack Hadjar joined Red Bull at the start of 2026 after impressing during his rookie Formula 1 season with Racing Bulls in 2025. His performances since stepping up to the senior team have now convinced Red Bull to extend his deal, ensuring that he will continue as Max Verstappen’s team-mate next season.
Red Bull rewards Isack Hadjar with 2027 F1 contract extension
Isack Hadjar impressed Red Bull’s senior management during a solid first half of the season. On numerous occasions, the gap to Max Verstappen remained relatively contained, while the Paris-born driver has fulfilled what the team requires from its second car.
One notable result was his much-disputed podium at the Monaco Grand Prix. Isack Hadjar was initially promoted to third after Pierre Gasly received penalties, before the position was later credited to Pierre Gasly for several weeks amid the subsequent review and appeal process. The final decision eventually restored the podium to Isack Hadjar.
With its latest decision, Red Bull has provided greater clarity over its immediate Formula 1 future. Max Verstappen has already extended his Red Bull contract until at least 2030, and Isack Hadjar’s new deal now establishes the team’s driver strategy for 2027.
Laurent Mekies explains why Red Bull kept Isack Hadjar
Red Bull CEO and Team Principal Laurent Mekies said: “We’re very excited to continue our journey with Isack. Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season, which made extending his contract an easy decision.
“From the very beginning, Isack immersed himself in the Team, spending every minute at the factory with his engineers to develop the car, always eager to learn and improve.
“You could see from that first weekend in Melbourne that he handled the step up with remarkable composure and had earned his place in this seat.
“The period since his injury has been a difficult one for Isack, but this extension is a testament to how much we believe in him and we can’t wait to see him back out on track.
“We still have a lot we want to achieve this season, but it’s a great feeling to know that the drivers, engineers and everyone back at the factory are all heading in the same direction, committed and together.”
Isack Hadjar excited to continue alongside Max Verstappen
Isack Hadjar also expressed his enthusiasm after securing his future with Red Bull beyond the end of the current campaign.
He said: “I am really excited to continue with Oracle Red Bull Racing. I came to this Team eight months ago and immediately understood the scale and ambition of this organisation.
“There are so many talented people at the factory, and you’re aware of the privilege of driving for such an incredible Team alongside a four-time World Champion like Max.
“From the moment I signed, I set out to dedicate myself to the Team, and with the support of Laurent and everyone in Milton Keynes, I’ve been able to justify the faith they’ve had in me.
“I’m constantly looking to listen, learn and push myself further every single day, which only makes me more excited about what lies ahead.”
Isack Hadjar returns for Azerbaijan Grand Prix after wrist injury
Before thoughts fully turn towards 2027, Isack Hadjar will return to the cockpit of the RB22 at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit. The Frenchman has missed the first three races held after Formula 1’s summer break – Zandvoort, Monza and Madrid – after suffering a wrist injury during training.
His Baku comeback therefore comes at an important moment for both driver and team, with Red Bull now having confirmed that the partnership with Max Verstappen will continue into next season. Fans following the weekend can also find the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix schedule and session times ahead of Isack Hadjar’s return to Formula 1 action.
