Christian Horner and Red Bull Racing have officially parted ways. While this news may not be entirely surprising, as the former team principal of the Milton Keynes-based Formula 1 team had already stepped down weeks ago, the confirmation now comes that Horner has relinquished every role within the Red Bull organization.
Previously, Christian Horner, the Leamington Spa-born manager, held multiple significant positions within Red Bull. Beyond being the team principal of Red Bull Racing, he also served as director of Red Bull Technologies and Red Bull Powertrains. The latter division had collaborated with Honda to develop the Japanese power units, while from 2026 onward, it is scheduled to produce Red Bull’s own engines in partnership with Ford Performance.
Newly filed documents with the UK Companies House confirm that over the past 48 hours, Horner has been officially removed as a director from all four companies associated with Red Bull. This administrative update also indicates that both parties have agreed on the details of Horner’s severance package, bringing a formal conclusion to his tenure.
Following Horner’s departure, Stefan Salzer, Red Bull’s head of human resources, has been added as a director of the four companies formerly under Horner’s oversight, primarily for administrative purposes. This step ensures continuity and proper management during the transitional period.
Christian Horner’s career at Red Bull was marked by extraordinary success. Under his leadership, the team secured eight Drivers’ World Championships—four with Sebastian Vettel between 2010 and 2013, and four with Max Verstappen in the modern era—as well as six Constructors’ Championships. His tenure solidified Red Bull Racing as one of the dominant forces in Formula 1 over nearly two decades.
Red Bull has appointed Laurent Mekies as the new team principal, taking over from Horner. Laurent Mekies had previously served as team principal of Racing Bulls and recently handed that role over to Alan Permane. The move represents a major reshuffle within Red Bull Racing’s management and signals a new chapter for the team as it continues to compete at the highest level of Formula 1.
Christian Horner’s departure marks the end of an era for Red Bull Racing. His strategic decisions, leadership style, and contributions to the development of both drivers and technical divisions have left a lasting impact on the team’s success and on the Formula 1 landscape as a whole.
