Luca de Meo’s tenure as CEO of the Renault Group has ended, raising concerns about Alpine’s future in F1. The Italian executive, passionate about motorsport and racing, was one of the promoters of the French team’s rebranding in Formula 1. The leadership change could significantly impact the team’s operations, which will already take a new shape in 2026 with the switch to Mercedes power units.
Alpine’s struggles in Formula 1 continue. The French team, still outside the points at the Canadian Grand Prix—with Franco Colapinto 13th and Pierre Gasly 15th—now loses a key supporter. Former Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo is leaving the brand and the automotive industry. According to Le Figaro, he may take the helm of Kering, a luxury goods holding company.
This sudden departure casts further uncertainty over Enstone’s future. There are ongoing rumors in the paddock about a possible sale, fueled by the farewell to the in-house engine project as the team becomes a Mercedes customer starting in 2026. While Flavio Briatore insists operations will continue smoothly, only time will provide a clearer picture.
