2025: the first year without Adrian Newey at Red Bull
Adrian Newey is undoubtedly the engineer who has contributed to the most world championship successes for various teams in F1 history: Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull. The 65-year-old Englishman is now approaching a new challenge with Aston Martin, where he will arrive next season after leaving the Milton Keynes team following 20 years of partnership, which culminated in the victories of Sebastian Vettel first, and then Max Verstappen.
Ten years close to saying goodbye
A challenge that Red Bull will also have to face, as they will lose one of their main resources. A moment that the Anglo-Austrian team will experience without the genius of Newey, who seemed close to leaving even before the contract signed this year, as revealed by Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner to *Marca*: “In the last eight or nine years, he’s been very close to leaving,” he confessed. “From 2014 onwards, we had to make sure that if he decided to leave, we would be able to step in, take the baton, and move forward.”
Red Bull like Manchester United
Red Bull has not stopped winning despite McLaren’s recent rise in the last GPs, to the point that Christian Horner compared his team to Manchester United after the departure of one of its greatest champions: “We have great strength and depth,” he said. “Manchester United didn’t stop winning when Eric Cantona left” (correcting himself to Cristiano Ronaldo, who transferred to Real Madrid). “Everything has to evolve, and I believe we have the strength and depth needed to take over. Adrian has been with us for almost 20 years, and we’ve had fantastic times. He’s a friend, the godfather of my daughter. We’ve done great things during that time. We can only wish him the best.” – he pointed out.
Aston Martin, but not only
Adrian Newey, who has been a key figure at Red Bull, could become a threat in 2025 with Aston Martin: “If they invented a rocket and Lance Stroll won the world championship in 2026, you could say it was the right thing to do,” he concluded. “It’s a team with big ambitions, Lawrence Stroll is highly motivated, but Aston Martin is not the only competitor.”
