Liam Lawson speaks out about the frustration caused by uncertainty over his 2026 future with the Red Bull family.
The future of Liam Lawson in Formula 1 remains uncertain. The New Zealand driver, currently competing with the Racing Bulls, confirmed that he is still “waiting” to learn whether he will be part of the 2026 grid, after a season filled with promise, consistent performances, and postponed decisions.
Lawson had started the year with the main Red Bull Racing team alongside Max Verstappen, but after two challenging races, he was moved back to the sister team. Since returning, however, the young driver has impressed with consistent points finishes and mature performances that have showcased both his reliability and racecraft.
Uncertain future despite strong performances
Despite his steady form, Lawson’s future remains on a knife’s edge. Red Bull is currently weighing several internal options: Isack Hadjar, who has delivered strong performances this season, is increasingly being linked with the second seat at Red Bull Racing, while emerging talent Arvid Lindblad could be promoted to a Racing Bulls seat in 2026.
Lawson admitted that the waiting process is becoming difficult to handle. “I’d love to know tomorrow, to be honest. But in this environment, it’s normal to be kept waiting a bit. The only thing I can control is my performance on track,” he said.
Focus on performance and consistency
At 24 years old, the New Zealander has chosen to focus entirely on delivering results and letting his performances speak for themselves. “There are some really exciting races coming up, including circuits I already know well. It’s the part of the season I enjoy the most,” he added. “Right now, that’s all I’m thinking about — the rest will take care of itself.”
With Red Bull still finalizing its driver line-ups for the 2026 Formula 1 season, Liam Lawson knows that every point and every race will be crucial. To convince Helmut Marko and Laurent Mekies that he deserves a seat, he’ll have to make himself impossible to overlook — both with his results and his attitude. The coming months could therefore prove decisive for his F1 career within the ever-competitive Red Bull system.
